Last Year’s Result

Last year, the Danbury Hatters (CT) were the victors of this tournament placing 10 with five finalists. Maine powerhouse, Wells (ME) took second, followed by Timberlane (NH) and host Sanford (ME) for fourth and fifth, respectively.

This Year?

It should be fun. With No. 4 Shawsheen Tech (MA) in the field, this tournament will be more competitive than ever. Four from Maine should look to compete: No. 14 Noble (ME), No. 17 Windham/Westbrook/GNG (ME), No. 24 Wells (ME), and Sanford (ME)

Host Chelmsford (MA) claimed the title in 2023. The Lions won with 220 points, barely outscoring second place Central Catholic (MA), who had 213.5. Minnechuag (MA) and Bedford (NH) round out last year’s top four.

This Year?

2023’s top four teams are all in along with a few other notable contenders such as Londenderry (NH) and St. John’s Shrewsbury (MA). No. 9 Central Catholic (MA) looks to win it with big hitters in Glynn and Blanchette, and No. 15 Bedford (NH) is looking to win a few titles of its own.

Brockton (MA) came away with the team title in 2023 placing three at the top of the podium. Host Whitman-Hanson (MA) was second with five champions.

This Year?

Defending champion Brockton (MA) has a chance to repeat but don’t count Whitman-Hanson (MA out of the running. Look for Bristol-Plymouth (MA) and Xavieran (MA) to contend as well. No. 21 Milton (MA) is sure to have at least one champion in Pellegri, but it will depend on the rest of the team for their finish.

New Milford (CT) barely won over East Hartford (CT) 197-195 in 2023. One placer seemed to be the difference as the Greenwave had ten and the Stingers had nine.

This Year?

No. 10 East Hartford (CT) should be the favorite in 2024—especially bringing back every wrestler that made the finals of this event last season. But, don’t count defending champ New Milford (CT) out. New Fairfield (CT) and host team Bristol Central (CT) can make some noise as well.

Last season host Keene (NH) won the title. The Blackbirds had four champions compared to the two by second-place Concord (NH) and third-place Spaulding (VT).

This Year?

The Minickiello Tournament, named to honor Hall of Fame Keene Coach Dave Minickeillo who passed away last year, now includes a girls’ division and a youth event the next day. The Blackbirds again look to be the favorite, but you cannot count out Spaulding (VT), Bow (NH), and Pinkerton Academy (NH).

No. 22 RHAM (CT) looks ready to repeat and with no Killingly (CT) in the field, that road may have gotten easier. Ellis Tech (CT) and Montville (CT) look to threaten RHAM’s second straight Casey Yates title.

Fairfield Warde (CT) looks to be the favorite to win the event again this year. No. 15 Simsbury (CT) is definitely in the hunt along with Fairfield Ludlowe (CT). No. 23 Norwalk (CT) may be in the running, but injuries may hinder this team’s performance.

It was a close battle last year, but in the end Central (RI) took the title over Coventry (RI) 194-191. North Kingstown (RI) came in third followed by New Bedford (MA) and New London (CT).

This Year?

Expect an awesome tournament with both No. 7 Scituate (RI) and No. 8 Coventry (RI) legitimately threatening to win it over defending champion Central (RI)—who is definitely capable of taking it all again.

Mount Anthony (VT) is definitely a threat to win it, but who knows how out-of-region teams Salem Cambridge (NY) and LaSalle (NY) will do? Springfield Central (MA) is always, of course, a solid contender.
