No. 31 P4P Wrestler in New England Charles Weidman Commits to Army

The No. 31 P4P Wrestler (prep or public) Charles Weidman (Xavier, CT) has announced to The Schwartz Report that he has committed to wrestle DI at Army.

The No. 4 wrestler in the public school New England class of 2025, Weidman funnily enough met Army Coach Kevin Ward by chance.

“At an RTC practice, I was supposed to go to the high school practice but I accidentally went to the college one,” recalled Weidman. “After I wrestled really well against the guys on Westpoint, Coach Ward started heavily recruiting me.”

Weidman visited the campus last week and instantly fell in love with the aura.

“The thing that stands out to me the most at Westpoint is the culture,” Weidman told The Schwartz Report. “Everyone is so respectful and hardworking, and it's really a culture of warriors who are men enough to put their lives on the line for God and their country.”

The 2024 New England champion knows he has room to grow. And even though Weidman has to wait a little bit, he can’t wait to test himself.

“The thing I am most excited to learn about from the team and university is how far they can push me,” Weidman said. “I am excited to learn about the daily physical and academic grind that molds hundreds of young men every year into America’s finest.”

Only a junior, the NSHCA finalist has one more year of high school left but sees committing now as a weight off his shoulders.

“The reason I committed so early was 1) I knew Westpoint was the place for me and 2) Now I have no pressure wrestling in high school. I don’t have to worry about impressing anymore college coaches and I can just work my hardest to achieve my goals with no pressure.”

There have been multiple New England prep school wrestlers that have committed to Army. These include Ben Smith and Owen Hicks (both New York Military Academy, NY) along with California-born Mark Ayala (Northfield Mt. Hermon, MA). Weidman will not be the only wrestler from Connecticut: 2022 New England Champ Chris Murphy (Guilford/Greens Farms Academy, CT) is already on the roster.

“[Chris] was a senior when I was a freshman, so I've seen him around when Xavier would duel with Guilford,” said Weidman. “I also got his number the first time I visited Westpoint a few months ago, and he’s been very helpful answering my questions about the school.”

Weidman is already set to visit the school again this week and get some training in with Murphy.
