2023 113lb New England Champion Peter Rincan has announced that he is transferring from Bedford High School in New Hampshire, to Billerica High School in Massachusetts.
Rincan is a 2022 George Bossi Lowell champion and proceeded to win the New England title later that season. The former New Hampshire wrestler found an abundance of success in his freshman year.
“I say my freshman campaign was very successful,” Rincan told The Schwartz Report. “I expected to come out on top, it may sound arrogant but I'm just that confident in my preparation and training.”
Billerica Coach Victor De Jesus and the tough competition found in the Bay State played a factor in Rincan’s motivation to transfer.
“The main reason I moved to Billerica, Mass. was because of Coach Victor De Jesus, he’s a coach over at Prophecy RTC, and he’s helped me a lot this summer, and I’m very confident he’ll get me to the next level”
Massachusetts is one of the toughest states in the region, notably producing five New England Champions at the high school level last season, the most of any state. Rincan sees the better competition as fuel to his fire to stay hungry.
“I’m very excited for the better competition, not sure on what weight I'm going,” Rincan said. “But I want to send a message to everyone going 113, 120, or 126, and that it is to watch your back because even though there is a target on mine, I’m still hunting.”
The now-Billerica sophomore is looking to do exactly what he did last year: “I’m gonna treat it like last year, but this year I’m gonna have people coming after me and it’s my job to take care of business and take it one match at a time and come out on top in both, Massachusetts and New England, while also looking to make the podium at NHSCA’s.”
