Girl’s P4P No. 1 Calli Gilchrist and No. 2 Sara McLaughlin BOTH Transfer to Choate

If you didn’t know before, you do now! The Schwartz Report’s No. 1 AND No. 2 pound for pound girls, Calli Gilchrist (formerly: Brien McMahon, CT) and Sara McLaughlin (formerly: Scituate, MA) have enrolled and transferred to Choate Rosemary Hall for the 2023-2024 school year.

Calli Gilchrist (Left) and Sara McLaughlin (Right) both are transferring to Choate Rosemary Hall for the 2023-2024 school year.

Both Gilchrist and McLaughlin are NHSCA All-Americans – Gilchrist was the 114lbs champion while McLaughlin finished third at that same weight. Both grapplers are also ranked in the Top-30 of the USA Wrestling National Girls High School Rankings at 112lbs. Gilchrist is ranked eighth, while McLaughlin cracks the list as a freshman at No. 29.

Choate Rosemary Hall is no newcomer to the national scene for girl’s wrestling. This past season, they placed second at Prep New England’s and fifth at Prep Nationals. The addition of these two athletes is definitely going to make a difference. Choate head coach Ryan Roddy is very adamant these two wrestlers can help bring his team to the next level.

“We add the top two girls in New England to our program who will not only contend for individual national titles, but will also help with our team goal to win Prep New England title and help us close the gap for a top 3 finish at nationals.” Roddy said.

Choate also boasts a tremendous academic program, ranking consistently as a top-five academic institution in the country amongst private high schools. Roddy also hopes that these two young women can show others that girls in this sport can garner both excellent sports and academic opportunities.

“The addition[s] of Calli and Sara [are] huge for the program. I think it lets the rest of the girls in New England know that you can value a great education and compete at a high level in wrestling,” Roddy said. “We see what Cornell, Princeton, and Stanford have done over the years with their men’s programs and we want to do the same thing here at a high school level for our girl’s program.”

Roddy is looking towards the 23-24 season with high hopes, as the Wild Boars have six girls returning to the team, two of which are already Prep All-Americans.

“Choate will be the best girl’s program in New England. We will have multiple New England Champs, multiple All-Americans and will have the school’s first Prep National Champ(s).”

Last month when speaking to The Schwartz Report on her transfer to wrestle prep at Choate, Calli Gilchrist had this to say: “I am excited, it’s something new, it’s gonna be hard and it’s gonna be different. I don’t know what to expect, I’ve never really been in that setting before, but it’s going to be hard and it’s going to be fun.”

On June 9th, The Schwartz Report’s girl’s pound for pound rankings will see some major updates: the rankings will also now include wrestlers from prep school, and they will expand to rank the top 20!
