Fire The Cannons: Revolution Wrestling Festival Preview

Updated: Jun 28

The Revolution Wrestling Festival kicks off on Saturday, June 29th, and boasts an electrifying showcase of grappling talent. The event features an intense individual tournament with divisions in folkstyle, freestyle, and Greco-Roman wrestling.

“I am so excited to continue to grow wrestling in the area,” said Jay Jones, the Rhode Island College wrestling coach and founder of the festival. “I am taking a chance for the betterment of local wrestlers and families by offering multidivisional discounts and less dual divisions to make it easier on club coaches to fill spots”

Competitors from various states will clash on the mats, displaying their prowess and dedication in hopes of earning a gold medal. The excitement continues on Sunday with a dual team folkstyle tournament, highlighting both high school athletes and younger competitors featuring a K-8th Grade division. This weekend is not just a celebration of wrestling but also a community gathering, uniting fans, families, and athletes in a shared passion for the sport.

Mayo Quanchi’s A Team (RI), the defending champions, are set to protect their title against a formidable lineup of competitors.

“Mayo Quanchi is looking forward to another Revolution,” MQ coach Mike Barry told The Schwartz Report. “Last year, we were fortunate enough to take home the K-8 banner, but many top performers have aged off and onto the high school team.”

Nevertheless, if you think Mayo Quanchi’s A Team won’t be competitive this year, think again.

““We’ll still roll with a lineup that has 3 NHSCA All-Americans, 4 past youth New England champs, and several more USAW State Champions,” Barry said.

Also competing are Mayo Quanchi’s B Team (RI), aiming to dethrone its fellow club members, and two more from the Ocean State: the Providence Exiles (RI) and Rhode Rage Wrestling (RI). The Maine Hammers (ME) are also bringing their powerhouse athletes, promising a tough challenge for any opponent. Meanwhile, host Revolution Dual Team (MA) hopes to leverage their home advantage.

This tournament promises intense matches, showcasing the skill and determination of these young wrestlers and creating unforgettable moments for tomorrow’s stars.
