December 18th, 2024 New England Rankings

As of today, competition has started in all six New England states (thanks, Connecticut) and the season is finally underway. Lots of tournaments went down in Massachusetts and a few in New Hampshire and Maine. Then there was Rhode Island with its 27-team South County Invitational. Yes, there is movement in this set of rankings.

And with Lowell this weekend, be ready for even more mayhem. Read the preview article for the biggest tournament in New England here

No. 4 Lucas Boxley (Norwich Free Academy, CT) is a big addition here. Boxley was a force on the youth circuit and this offseason had wins over No. 10 Zach Dixon (Xavier, CT) and No. 12 Cole Desiano (Ridgefield, CT). He will be a big challenge to No. 1 John Woodall (Franklin, MA), who won the Ashland Early Bird Tournament (MA). No. 6 Antoine Jackman (Greater Lowell, MA) is back at 106 this season. He got pinned while up 9-0 against No. 14 Alexavier Orellana (Woburn, MA) in a dual meet.

No. 8 Brayden Boccia (Milford, MA) moves up after calculating a missed win over No. 9 Peter Annis (Suffield/Windsor Locks, CT) from 1000 Island duals over the summer. No. 13 Preston Garland (Mt. Blue, ME) won the West Lake Tournament (ME) and No. 17 Reid Grandmason (Exeter, NH) won the Conval Tournament (NH)

No. 2 Logan Costello (Ashland, MA) won his team’s annual tournament and No. 3 Dominick Sousa (Smithfield, RI) won the South County Invite. Meanwhile, No. 4 Kylan Berry (Marshwood, ME) has reported to the Schwartz Report that he intends to move up to this weight class. Barry won the Gariner (ME) tournament at this weight.

No. 6 Cole Glynn (Central Catholic, MA) won the Matmania Tournament (NY) while No. 19 Eoin Comes (North County, VT) enters the rankings. The 2024 New England qualifier has a win over No. 10 Devon Mateo (West Springfield, MA) from the summer but also lost to No. 18 Aiden Fogarty (Whittier Tech, MA). Fogarty won the Blue Devil Classic, outscoring opponents 43-4 with three pins. No. 9 Diego Cruz (Mt. Everett, MA) also beat Mateo in what seems like it was an electric 20-12 Major Decision.

“I want my crown back.” That's what No. 2 Peter Rincan (Billerica, MA) told the Schwartz Report when asked about his weight for the season. The 2023 New England champion outscored his opponents at the Salem Blue Devil Classic 65-23 en route to a title and has joined what is DEFINITELY the most stacked weight class in the region.

No. 3 Mike Morris (Haverhill, MA) won the Anthony Lisitano Tournament and No. 4 Nathan Sayers (Xaverian, MA) won the Ashland Tournament. No. 16 Phoenix Martinez (Oceanside, MA) lost 5-2 in overtime to No. 12 Ayden Cofone (Windham/Westbrook/GNG, ME).

No. 6 Zach Brzoska (Fairfield Warde, CT) moves ahead No. 7 Dylan Meyers (Ridgefield, CT) after inputting wins from the 23-24 season. Meyers is also 2-0 against No. 8 Isaiah McDaniel (Middletown, CT) in battles over the summer, once in folkstyle and once in freestyle.

No. 15 Carter Trubiano (Keene, NH) went 4-0 with three pins and placed first at 131lbs. at the Wrangle on the Plains in New York. No. 16 Logan Martins (Johnston, RI) pinned No. 17 Ethan Uttley (Woonsocket, RI) in the finals of the South County Invite. Uttley was up 6-2 towards the end of the first period when Martins got the takedown and fall. No. 8 Caden Chase (Central Catholic, MA) did not compete at the Matmania Tournament but the Schwartz Report has been told he will compete at Lowell.
