After an action-packed weekend at the St. Paul’s Women’s Tournament Here are the top 10 wrestlers per weight, regardless of prep or public school and a top 10 team ranking based on a tournament points format.

No. 1 Samantha Bertini (Ludlow, MA) comes into her junior year ranked No. 23 in the country. No. 2 Selena Batres (Jonothan Law, CT) looks to be her main competitor on the public side.


No. 3 Serra Akyali (Phillips-Andover, MA) won the St. Paul’s tournament solidifying herself as a force to be reckoned with on the prep scene. Maine has two hammers at this weight: No. 7 Kadence Fogg (Erskine Academy, ME) and No. 9 Abigail Garland (Mt. Blue, ME), who beat No. 10 Maddie Morse (St. Paul’s, NH) and placed second behind Akyali.

A top 25 P4P wrestler in the country, No. 1 Kayla Batres (Greens Farms Academy, CT) looks to win her second New England prep title and first national prep title in 2025. In her way: No. 2 Lily Runez (Choate, CT). Runez, a transfer from Keene, NH, is ranked No. 30 in the country.


2024 Public New England champion No. 3 Hannah Perro (Noble, ME) is ranked No. 28 at 100lbs; she rounds out the trio of nationally ranked New England wrestlers at this weight. Nevertheless, expect No. 4 Allison Patten (Pilgrim, RI) to look to upset Perro in March.

No. 2 Brooke Weafer (Bristol-Plymouth, MA) and Western New England commit No. 3 Sybella Landrie (Berlin, CT) are the main front runners on the public side. No. 6 Brooke Lightfoot (Tewksbury, MA) appears in the rankings after calculating in a win from the All-State tournament over No. 7 Saphira Sao (Lowell, MA)

No. 4 in the class of 2025 nationally, New England No. 1 Calli Gilchrist (Choate, CT) is gunning for a second prep national title. No. 2 Cecillia Verrilli (Milford CT), will not be competing in high school, However the homeschooled athlete does have wins over wrestlers ranked on this list. She will be able to compete in NHSCA Nationals. 


No. 5 Caitlin O’Reilly (St. Paul’s NH), a transfer from New Jersey, came in second at St. Paul’s, losing to Gilchrist. No. 3 Brooklyn Webber (Mt. Blue, ME) also lost to Gilchrist-but in the semis-and went on to place third. No. 6 Jocelyn Antes (Frontier, MA) took fifth and had a win over No. 7 Brianna Wood (Eagle Hill, CT) who is up from 107lbs.

We saw a battle of 1 vs. 2 over the weekend. No. 1 Sara McLaughlin (Choate, CT), nationally ranked No. 26 in the country, defended her title against No. 2 Chloe Ross (Scituate, RI) in the finals of the St. Paul’s Tournament. Ross scored the first takedown and rode out McLaughlin the first period, but Mclaughlin’s pressure on top worked Ross to her back and she got the pin while trailing 3-0 to the freshman. No. 6 Tasha Boharded (Phillips-Andover, MA) took third at St. Paul’s losing to McLaughlin in the quarterfinals.


No. 3 Mia Dineen (Hingham, MA) last wrestled at this weight class in the offseason after competing at 107lbs last season, and No. 4 Lina Rodriguez (Norwalk, CT) is set to compete at the same weight she won bronze in at last year.

The eighth nationally ranked wrestler coming out of New England, Dani Nugent (Phillips-Andover, MA) finds herself ranked No. 7 in the country and No. 1 in New England. 2024 New England champion No. 2 Hoshena Gemme (Old Lyme, CT) is the favorite to repeat in the public division. 


No. 3 Sophie Grunhuvd (Massabesic, ME) is new to the rankings after her move from Montanna. Gunhuvd greeted the New England wrestling scene with a win over No. 4 Jillian Glaski (Mt. Anthony, VT).

The biggest new addition here is No. 3 Kan-Yah McCarthey (Fairfield Ludlowe, CT), who  expects to be the biggest challenge to No. 1 Shelby Galex (Northeast Metro/Bishop Fenwick, MA). Galex placed second last season at New Englands.


No. 9 Mackenzie Lacoss (Spaulding, NH) is also new here. She won the St. Paul’s Tournament and beat No. 10 Cami Capdavila (St. Paul’s, NH).

After an error that had her misclassed, No. 1 Lily Fitzpatrick (St. Paul’s, NH) is back in the rankings. Fitzpatrick won Prep New Englands last season and placed fourth at nationals.


No. 4 Bella Bueno (Phillips-Exeter, NH) is the biggest challenge to Fitzpatrick. Bueno was a national semi-finalist last season. No. 5 Bella Schmuylvich (Phillips-Andover, MA) is now at this weight class; she placed second to Fitzpatrick in Prep New Englands last year.

The team race here for a hypothetical public/prep tournament is a good one. Nationally ranked at No. 30 Choate Rosemary Hall (CT) finds themselves ranked No. 1 in the region. No. 2 Phillips-Andover (MA) follows them; each has five wrestlers ranked.


Maine is strong here with three public schools and one prep school in the top 10. No. 3 Mt. Blue (ME) has four wrestlers ranked. No. 6 Noble (ME), the defending public champion, has three wrestlers ranked and No. 10 Hyde School (ME) has two.


No. 5 Massabesic is catapulted into the rankings after the transfer of the Grunhuvds. The transfer was so notable that USAWrestling included Massabesic as an honorable mention in the national rankings. 


No. 7 Platt (CT) is a strong team from the south of the region as is No. 9 Scituate (RI).
