We are now full throttle into the postseason. In a little over two weeks, we will be crowning our 26 New England champions and a team tournament champion. For now, though, most wrestlers still have two big tests in front of them: A class/divisional state tournament and then the New England qualifying state tournaments. Then there’s the prep side gearing up for Nationals this weekend.
Maine is already ahead of the ball in that Maine who already ran through their Class A and B State tournaments and is having its New England Qualifier this weekend. Vermont, meanwhile, takes things a little slower and is just waiting on a state tournament the first weekend of March.
Here you'll find a breakdown of what school’s attending each tournament, what ranked wrestlers you may see, and a review of last year and a prediction for this year!

Last Year:
RHAM came away with the title last with three champions going 3-0 in the finals. Runner-up Berlin had four finalists and went 2-2 in the finals. RHAM winning every gold they could certainly helped, as it was only a 3.5 point margin between the two. Foran sent five to the State Open from this event and came in third.
2024 Top Five:
RHAM - 211
Berlin - 207.5
Foran - 154
Guilford - 150
Bristol Eastern – 143
This Year:
With RHAM not looking as strong as they have in the past, we may see a new champion. Foran may be the favorite here, but Bristol Eastern could be close as well. Guilford could be knocking on the door as well. This crown is truly up for grabs. Meanwhile, Anthony Shivas and Scott Romano are each looking for their third title.

2024 Top Five:
Xavier - 343
Newtown - 251
New Milford - 219
Simsbury - 176.5
Platt – 133
This Year:
Even though Xavier may be down compared to last year, the Middletown school still looks like a favorite. Newtown expects to compete as does with New Milford. Bristol Central and Simsbury look. Max Konopka, Evan Schibi, Isaiah McDaniel, Kenna Gioffre, and Marc Maurath are each looking for their second Class L title while Braylon Gonzalez is looking for his third in his junior year.

CIAC Class LL
Location: Trumbull High School
Date(s): 2/21-2/22
Last Year:
It was a close race for first last year with Fairfield Warde taking the crown by six points over runner-up Danbury with East Hartford coming in third while going 5-for-5 in the finals. The Ridgefield Tigers rounded out the top four.
2024 Top Five:
Fairfield Warde - 221
Danbury - 215
East Hartford - 200
Ridgefield - 190.5
Norwich Free Academy - 158.5
This Year:
East Hartford and Fairfield Warde look to be the top two teams, with Ridgefield and Danbury not far behind. East Hartford has the chance to come away with five champions again, including two seeking their fourth Class LL titles: Isaac Quilles and Dravyn Roberts. The Stingers will need strong performances from Chris Montovani and Angel Sanchez to be able to compete with the depth Warde, Danbury, and Ridgefield bring.
Fairfield Warde, however, looks to show off their arsenal and (hopefully) send double digits to the state open. Ridgefield could contend, but they’d need to bounce back from a less-than-great FCIAC performance last weekend. Nevertheless, don’t count the Tigers out. Danbury is hoping to climb back to the top of the mountain they were on not so long ago.
Schwartz’s Prediction:
(8) Fairfield Warde - 213
(4) East Hartford - 208

MIAA Division 1
Location: North Andover High School
Date(s): 2/21-2/22
Last Year:
In 2024, it was Haverhill that came out on top with two golds-two silvers and a total of six wrestlers that headed to the All-States. St. John’s Prep came in second only trailing the Hillies by two points. Shawsheen finished third and it was Taunton who finished fourth beating out Central Catholic 114-110.
2024 Top Five:
Haverhill - 141
St. John’s Prep - 139
Shawsheen Tech - 115.5
Taunton - 114
Central Catholic – 110
This Year:
This year just might swing in Shawsheen’s favor as they have three wrestlers-–the Tildsley brothers and Giutsi–that look to be the favorites in. If cousins Tristan Lane and Brayton Carbone can place in the top three, then that would be huge for the Rams. Haverhill will find it tough to repeat after the transfers of 2/3 of the Morrises-s. However, if Michael Morris, and Cale Wood, Jr. can bounce back from losses last week then they can help Haverhill win it all once again.
Central Catholic and St. John’s Prep are worth watching. Central Catholic has a great youth movement going on but may be one year away from truly contending. St. John’s Prep, meanwhile, won the Division 1 North Sectional last weekend beating out every team listed thus far.
Schwartz’s Prediction:

Minnechaug won it last year, sending seven to the All-States-two as D2 champions. Milford, who crowned three champions and had another placer, was only 1.5 points behind Minnechaug. Bridgewater-Raynham placed third and sent four to the All-States last year.
2024 Top Five:
Minnechaug - 131
Milford - 129.5
Bridgewater-Raynham - 106
Agawam - 100
West Springfield – 96
This Year:
Minnechaug may not have the starpower but they have depth.Look for them to contend again with two serious contenders. Don’t count out Milford and Bridgewater-Raynham who have had stellar seasons and are ranked in the top 25 in both the dual and tournament polls and are set to class for a D2 title. West Springfield is also having a great season and can threaten as well.

Last Year:
Bow came out on top last year placing eight and scoring 229.5 points. Pelham was not too far behind placing nine but only scoring 204.5. Souhegan and Plymouth rounded out the top four scoring 197.5 and 161 points, respectively.
2024 Top Five:
Bow - 229.5
Pelham - 204.5
Souhegan - 197.5
Plymouth - 161
John Stark – 137
This Year:
Bow could be the strong team again, but the Schwartz Report is picking the Pelham Pythons as the favorite this year as they bring a strong lineup led by nationally ranked Liz Donovan who is seeking her third NHIAA DIII title. Plymouth looks to contend as well with Souhegan moving up to Division II.

RIIL Green State Qualifier
Location: La Salle Academy
Date(s):2/22
This Year:
Rhode Island has decided to hold a tournament prior to the RIIL state tournament known as the “Red/Green Qualifier” to help decide seeding. Schools across all divisions are split between two tournaments both held at La Salle Academy in Providence. A fun note: this tournament will have a true second place match, meaning if the wrestler who came in second DID NOT beat the winner of the consolation bracket on their way to the finals, then they must wrestle to determine who gets the silver medal.
Bishop Hendricken leads the field with proven depth in dual meets and at the Colter Abely Tournament in Middletown where they bested Scituate and took second to Xavier (CT). The Spartans of Scituate could have the power to top Hendricken.Key wrestlers in the tournament will be Aidan Baker and Rocco Simone; their performance could bolster the Spartans to first if they excel in their tough brackets. East Providence and South Kingstown can potentially follow after that.
Schwartz’s Prediction:
Bishop Hendricken - 205
(14) Scituate - 197
South Kingstown - 183

Date(s): 2/22
This Year:
La Salle Academy and Toll Gate are, who I presume, will battle it out… for second place. The Ponaganset Chieftains have this locked up barring anything crazy. Cranston West and Lincoln could follow in the top five. Woonsocket could also upend the standings.

MPA New England Qualifier
Location: Mt. Arat High School
Date(s): 2/21-2/22
2024 Top Five *unofficial:
Windham/Westbrook.GNG - 70
Massabesic - 61
Noble - 60
Camden Hills - 52
Lincoln Academy - 48.5
This Year:
With the MPA not requiring the New England Qualifier to be a part of the official postseason. it is somewhat unknown who goes and who doesn't. Unofficial team scores may be kept by fans, but it all teams send their best, this is how I see it playing out.
Noble would probably be the favorite as they have a loaded lineup coming off a Class A title. Wells, Camden Hills, and Massabesic would follow. Marshwood is a dark horse candidate as they are led by Cody Bubier and Jack Anderson, who can rally the rest of the team behind them for a top-five finish.
Schwartz’s Prediction:
Noble - 103
Camden Hills - 90
Wells - 83
Marshwood - 80
Massabesic - 77

Prep Nationals
Location: Lehigh University
Date(s): 2/21-2/22
Last Year:
GFA came away as the top New England School, placing fight as a team and putting eight on the prep national podium–with Nate Taylor ‘24 placing the highest at third. Northfield Mount Hermon followed the Dragons as the Hoggers put three on top of the podium, led by a silver medal run from James Bechter Key wrestlers for the NMH squad just missed out on the podium:including Dylan Greenstein medically forfeited out last year and Nate Consigli and Tyler Kadish ‘24 lost in the blood round. Phillips-Andover had New England’s only other finalist with Julian Rios making it as the 3-seed.
2024 Top Five (New England):
5. Green Farms Academy - 191.5
6. Northfield Mt. Hermon - 139.5
13. Belmont Hill - 77
26. Nobles - 31.5
31. Phillips-Andover – 26
This Year:
Greens Farms Academy looks to lead the way here qualifying all 14 wrestlers. Northfield Mt. Hermon qualified 13 and Belmont Hill and New York Military Academy each qualified nine. An interesting question here will be the firepower GFA, NMH, and NYMA–the top 3 teams– have., Can all three of these regional powerhouses place in the top 10?
Schwartz’s Prediction:
4. Greens Farms Academy - 195.5
5. Northfield Mt. Hermon - 188
8. New York Military Academy - 105
15. Belmont Hill - 78
