Two of Maine’s toughest tournaments occurred within 2 weeks of each other: the Noble invitational occurred December 27th and 28th and the S.W.A.T. has just wrapped up on January 5th and 6th.
No. 4 ranked Shawsheen Tech (MA) made the trip up to Sanford High School in Maine to participate in this tournament, and Cumberland (RI), Danbury (CT), North Providence (RI), and Timberlane (NH) followed suit. Last year, the Danbury Hatters took home the team title, but this year, with other challengers in the mix, Danbury had unfamiliar trouble.

Finals matches
This year had some electric finals matches, but there was one semi-finals match that pretty much everyone was waiting for all day. At 157, No. 4 Joseph Lathwood (Biddeford/Thornton, ME) vs. No. 12 Jesse Defonce (Danbury, CT) will no doubt be a match-of-the-year candidate. Defonce entered the second period with a 4-2 lead, but Lathwood came out on top in the end. It was a razor-tight match with a final score of 9-8.
At 132, No. 5 Deydon Soto (Danbury, CT) and No. 6 Dyllan Davis (Wells, ME) faced off in the finals. Davis also faced No. 10 Caleb Caceres (Shawsheen Tech, MA) in the semi-finals and won 3-1. And at 106, No. 9 Kylan Berry (Marshwood, ME) met No. 15 Ben Mann (Timberlane, NH) in the finals. Berry earned a dominant tech fall win over Mann 16-0.
