2023 New England Showcase Bracket Preview: 120 (Girls)

What is the New England Showcase?

Saturday, November 4th is going to be a great day for wrestling. The Schwartz Report is hosting its first ever invitational tournament!

The New England Showcase invites were sent to top wrestlers that compete or will compete in the NEISWA (prep league) or CNESSPA (public league). The tournament will be an eight-man, double-elimination bracket. Wrestlers are guaranteed three matches. First four eliminated will be entered in a mini pool to determine 5th-8th, and the losers of the semi-finals will wrestle for 3rd and 4th. For the girls side, wrestlers will be in a four-person bracket with two matches guaranteed placing all four.

Tons of college coaches have already confirmed their attendance, and more are invited. With that out of the way, here is the preview for the girls’ 120lb weight class!

WEIGHT CLASSES (Two-pound allowance):

Boys: 108, 114, 120, 126, 132, 138, 144, 150, 157, 165, 175, 190, 215, 285

*Pre-seeds and entries are subject to change; seedings will be finalized after Super 32 and Journeyman.*

Chloe Ross (Coventry, RI)

Chloe Ross, the Coventry, RI resident, may be one of the youngest competitors in the event but she is far from the least acclaimed. She recently placed 2nd at 105lbs at the 2023 USA Wrestling Girls Folkstyle Nationals in the 14u division. She was also named to Wrestling USA Magezine’s Girl’s World All-Star team.

Freya Munshi (Newton South, MA)

This weight class just gets deeper with Freya Munshi entering the bracket. The Newton South wrestler is a two-time Massachusetts State Champion and placed 4th at the New England Championships. The senior looks to make a big statement in her final high school season!

Abigail Alicandro (Marinapolis, CT)

Abigail Alicandro is another elite wrestler in the field. She hails from Oxford, MA but goes to school in Thompson, CTat Marianapolis Preparatory School. Alicandro won the 2022 National Prep Tournament beating fellow New Englander Rowan MacIntosh (Northfield Mt. Herman, MA). Earlier this year she made the finals again but fell short of repeating as champion.

Elizabeth Donovan (Pelham, NH)

The Pelham, NH resident Elizabeth Donovan is ready for the big show after being a powerhouse in the Granite State. Donovan is a 2x NHIAA Division III State Champ—competing against boys—and the 2023 NHIAA Meet of Champions winner in the girls’ division.
