Well, it has been a wild couple weeks of wrestling! With upsets, title defenses, and more shifting the landscape, now’s the best time to be sure you’re up to date on the New England rankings!

The biggest new addition here is No. 4 Chase Kastner (Southington, CT). The 2023 Fargo Greco All-American won the George Bossi Lowell holiday tournament, beating No. 6 Cole Glynn (Central Catholic, MA) and No. 7 Tommy Milligan (Newtown, CT) en route to the title. 


No. 5 Antoine Jackman (Greater Lowell, MA) dropped a 1-0 decision to Glynn in the quarterfinals, but came back with a 6-4 win against him for third place. No. 10 Aiden Morris (Haverhill, MA), No. 12 Amauri Hernandez (Tyngsborough/Dracut), and No. 14 Ben Mann (Timberlane, NH) placed fifth, sixth, and seventh at Lowell.

There's quite a bit of movement here, as No. 4 Nick Desisto (Tewksbury, MA) made the run at Lowell to the title, beating No. 3 Mike Morris (Haverhill, MA), 9-5 and pinning No. 9 Derek Marcolini (Milford, MA) on the way to gold. Although Desisto beat Morris at Lowell, the Hillie is still 3-1 on the season over Desisto.


In other action, No. 7 Apollo Bellini (Ponaganset, RI) beat No. 8 Caden Hughes (Scituate, RI) in a close 8-6 matchup. With both of them being underclassmen, those two are set to battle for a while in their high school careers.

In Massachusetts, No. 1 Peter Rincan (Billerica, MA) got it done. He beat No. 2 Jack Gedney (Lewis Mills, CT) in the finals of Lowell. No. 4 Stone Farnsworth (Coventry, RI) dropped a decision in overtime to Gedney in the semifinals.


Other wrestlers to make their mark on a big stage included No. 8 Cale Wood, Jr. (Haverhill, MA) and No. 9 Jason Ballou (Andover, MA). Ballou placed fourth and Wood Jr. placed fifth. However, it was Wood, Jr. who came away with the 7-3 win when they met in the Round of 16.

If you weren’t keeping track of this bracket at Lowell, shame on you. No. 1 Peyton Ellis (Coventry, RI) came away with the title and the Most Outstanding Wrestler Award for Lightweights. He pinned No. 2 Emmett Logan (Lowell, MA) in the finals. In the semifinals, the roof was rocking when hometown boy Logan beat No. 4 Yandel Morales (Andover, MA). Although Morales leads the all-time series between the two great grapplers, that was the first time the rivals have met THIS season.


No. 3 Dylan Kadish (Newton South, MA) also would beat Morales in the consi-semis, and then beat No. 10 Nathan Sayers (Xavieran, MA) for fourth. No. 7 Miles Darling (Essex/Masco Tech, MA) was in the tournament as the 4 seed, but medically forfeited after the quarters.

The junior ran through his bracket with five pins, beating No. 4 Shea Morris (Haverhill, MA) in the finals. Morris got to the finals after pinning No. 10 Dominick Spadaro (Fairfield Warde, CT) in a VERY close 6-6 match. Spadaro would place fifth after falling to No. 7 Kiaben Kennedy (Bedford, NH), who would go on to win third place.

Last week, No. 9 Anthony Mann (Hanover, MA) got revenge on No. 10 Sawyer Ayotte (Shepherd Hill, MA). Mann pinned him in the finals of the Anthony Lisitano tournament; they are now 1-1 on the year against each other.

There is a new number one! No. 1 Mason Pellegri (Milton, MA) won the Lowell holiday tournament and ascended to the top spot! He pinned No. 2 Matt Harrold (Haverhill, MA) in the semis and won by a 5-3 decision over No. 5 Jerameel Vasquez (Hampden Charter East, MA) in the final.


Down in Delaware at the Beast of the East tournament, No. 4 Charles Weidman (Xavier, CT) took eighth place, but picked up a win over the wrestler who took bronze at that prestigious event.

No. 1 Thomas Brown (Chelmsford, MA) reminded everyone of his dominance; the nationally ranked heavyweight won Lowell, along with the award for the most pins in the least amount of time. He beat No. 6 Gabriel Thomas (Brookline, MA) in the finals. No. 8 Jon DaSilva (Newtown, CT) took third.


A big change here is the removal of former No. 2 Jao Pedro-Pires (Catholic Memorial, MA); he is sadly out for the season due to injury.
