1/31/24 Girls New England Rankings (Prep/Public)

With the first ever CNESSPA Girls New England championships and the already existing NEISWA Girls championships coming up, it’s time for The Schwartz Report to proudly present its first-ever New England Girls rankings! Here are the Top 8 per weight class for both public and prep schools.


Note About the Rankings: Public and prep were grouped together for the girls rankings due to the fact that there are a multitude of tournaments during the season which allows public and prep girls to compete against each other.

The biggest wrestler at the lightest weight is No. 1 Samantha Bertini (Ludlow, MA). Bertini found herself nationally ranked in the USA Wrestling list at the 95lbs weight class before they decided to leave it out in the January set. Lily Runez (Keene, NH) enters at No. 2; she is the FIRST girl to ever win the Capital City Classic Tournament (yes, wrestling boys) in New Hampshire. 


No. 3 Maddie Morse (St. Paul’s, NH) looks to defend her New England prep title while also going for the gold at nationals after a silver place finish in 2023.

Was there a question to who was No. 1 here? Only a high school freshman, Kayla Batres (GFA, CT) has already won the college Midlands tournament and is currently ranked fifth in the country. No. 2 Hannah Perro (Noble, ME) comes in as the favorite to win the public side. She placed third at last year’s 18U girls’ New Englands at 100lbs with a win over No. 3 Addison Herdic (Ellis Tech, CT) who won the recent CT Queen of the Mat tournament. No. 4 Daisy Hawkins also placed third at last year’s New England tournament at 107.

Nationally Ranked at 19, Madolin Ripley (Oceanside, ME) finds herself at the No. 1 spot in The Schwartz Report rankings. Behind her is No. 2 Tatianna Irizarry (Ledyard, CT)— became the FIRST girl to win a C.I.A.C State Open match—comes in at No. 2.


No. 3 Rowan McIntosh (NMH, MA) is sure to be a threat and is the favorite to defend her Prep New England title. She went on to place second at the National Prep Tournament. Sybella Landrie (Berlin, CT), who won the CT Queen of the Mat Tournament, comes in at No. 4.

Sharing the accolade of highest-ranked wrestler in New England in these rankings, No. 1 Calli Gilchrist (Choate, CT) was the Fargo Runner-Up and is currently ranked fifth in the country. On the public side, we have another nationally ranked wrestler in No. 2 Liz Donovan (Pelham, NH), who sits at 26th in the country.


No. 3 Freya Munshi (Newton South, MA) placed 4th at last year’s New Englands. No. 5 Chloe Ross (Rhode Island) may be a surprise to some. She is currently in middle school and unable to compete in high school tournaments during her season, but, in the off-season, Ross has beaten numerous nationally ranked high schoolers and is a MUST-HAVE on this list.

This weight class may be one of the deepest and—what do you know?—it features another nationally ranked wrestler. No. 1 Sara McLaughlin (Choate, RI) is ranked 18th in the country. On the public side, No. 2 Jaden Coppins (Colchester, VT) is the defending New England champion and recently won the 31st Annual Mountie Invitational at Mt. Greylock High School in Williamstown, MA.


No. 3 Lindsey Rywolt (Stratford, CT) placed fifth at last year’s New Englands and won the 2024 Eastern States Classic. Gianna Daniele (Minnechaug, MA), runner-up to Coppins, was a win away from placing at NHSCA Nationals and rounds out the top 4.

Two NHSCA All-Americans top the 132 rankings. No. 1 Rylee Donohue (Norwalk, CT) placed seventh at 126 and was the third-place finisher at 132 for New Englands. No. 2 Hoshena Gemme (Old Lyme, CT) placed seventh at NHSCAs at 107. 


No. 3 Anjuie Lang (Boston Latin Academy, MA) won the Phillips Girl’s Tournament, over No. 6 Avery Colgate (Governor's Academy, MA). And No. 4 Sierra Gianni (Mascoma, NH) won the St. Paul Women’s Tournament while  No. 5 Morgan Pennempede (Gloucester, MA) won the Mahar Senators Kick Off Classic.
